The Book of Bennet

 I'm Baaaaacck!

I have spent 3 days, away, and it seems like longer. I have will have several things to say about the trip I just took. I will be talking about my son, the track meet, the mix up, my burn, Rutland, Iowa, and, last but not least, how Master influenced my activities during my stay. I have done some writing, some things are still swirling around in my head, waiting for me to sort them out. I think I will have enough posts for a week!

Anyway, I'm glad to be back and ready to put my energies into some projects at home. Looking forward to "talking" to you all in the morning.

 Out of town

I will be going out of town! I have a meeting, and it happens to be near my father’s home. My children have opted to stay home (can’t miss baseball!) so I will have at least some time to myself, as well as some with my father. So I guess I am getting kind of a mini vacation.

Master has granted me permission to not post during this time. Access to a computer will be limited. Hopefully, I will come up with some things to write about and have some ideas on paper when I return Sunday night. Master is requiring that I continue my 45 minutes of activity. Access to walking will be the same.

My only wish is that Master could be with me. This meeting is about public speaking/performances. Master could see more of what I do, and would enjoy the people and atmosphere. Maybe next year….

I will post again Sunday evening.

 Pleasant Surprise

Monday morning I had to be at work at 6:00am. I wasn’t looking forward to being up at such an hour, much less be functional, too. But as I was driving to work at 5:30, the sun was just working its way up over the horizon. It was that beautiful, peaceful time of the day when everything is fresh and new. It made me wonder if the extra sleep was forth losing out on this special time of day.

Work went well, too. I hope the rest of the summer goes as well.

 So what did I do?

I wrote yesterday that I had a whole day to without anywhere I had to be. So what did I do with it?
Well, as I suspected, I kind of parceled it out. I played a couple of board games with my son. We also baked banana bread together. He even ate some of it. Usually he just likes the licking out the bowl. But he helped crack eggs and stir.

I did some work around the house. I washed dishes and clothes. I had my son go through old school things, throwing out what he didn’t want or need. I did some generally cleaning, filling up garbage bags for garbage pick up today.

I mowed the lawn. I was hoping Master would let that count for my 45 minutes of daily activity, but he said no. So I took my 45 minute walk. While I walked, I began reading Bill Cosby’s book, Time Flies. He wrote it when he turned 50, and it is about growing older. I expect I will write a post or two about that as well. I also wrote a little “poem” for Master and emailed it to him. I don’t know if he will want me to post it or not. If so, I will post it here at a later date.

Time did indeed fly yesterday. Despite the list of things I did, I still wonder, did I accomplish enough? But as Jim Croce said before his untimely death, there never seems to be enough time to do the things you wanna do.

I have to remember progress, not perfection. And I did make progress yesterday.

 A Day Off

I have a day off today. A whole day without work, or baseball, or any other commitment. So what will I do?

I could clean lots of the house. Garbage pick up is tomorrow. I could fill the garbage cans. The lawn could be mowed. Floors could be scrubbed. I could catch up on so much. I could make a list. There are a lot of things to get done around the house. I hate to have a wasted day with so much to do.

Or I could spend the day with my son, who hates it when I am gone. I would like to bake some banana bread, use up some old bananas. My son loves to help bake. Okay, he loves to lick out the bowls. But he would enjoy it, just the same. We could play some games together. Spend a lot of quality time.

Or I could just kind of check out for the day, take a mini vacation and do nothing. Have you ever wanted to do that? Just get away from it all? Say screw it and let things lie? I have heard several country songs with that idea. I wouldn’t just walk away from my life, leaving lose ends, but to take a day would be wonderful. I deserve it, don’t I?
The truth will probably be something in the middle. I will spend some time getting things done at home, some time just chilling out, and, of course, some family time.

Gee, a whole day stretching before me. Think of the possibilities.
