The Book of Bennet

 Welcome Home, Master.

Yes, Master returned home today. Since we live so far apart, you wouldn’t think it would matter, but I do feel like my routine is a bit different when he is gone. No daily “Good morning, Master.” No checking in when I come home. I know he is not there to see it. But I feel the change in the routine. I feel his absence.

I have not seen Master online yet, but he did call and leave a message, just a short I love you. He sounded tired.

I hope, Master, that you are getting some well deserved rest after your travels. Know that I love you.

Lawyer for Spitzer call girl: Photos used without consent

Lawyers for Ashley Dupre, the girl identified as the high priced call girl used by Eliot Spitzer, are complaining about the use of “suggestive photos” by the media outlets. Now, I am not here to judge this girl. She did what she did and probably never expected to be shoved into the spotlight for it. But it has happened. What I find interesting is the fact that she doesn’t like these photos of her in “suggestive poses”. Where did the press get these photos? At least some of them came from her MySpace page. That’s right, Ms. Dupre posted them herself.

This just brings home the point that if you put it on the internet, others can and will read it. I have written before about anonymity on the web. How much information do you really want to give out? Are there things you don’t want others to know about you? If you are going to bare all, well, perhaps you should think about it first. Do you really want to do that? It is possible that what you post could come back on you later.

I’m sorry, Ms. Dupre, but that’s what’s happened in your case. You posted the pics, and now they have come back to bite you in the ass.

 Writing problems

Are you waiting for the end of the story? I certainly hope so. It would be nice to think that someone is reading it. And I have written the final chapter.

The problem is, I’m not satisfied with it. It doesn’t pack the punch that I want it to. So, I’m left to wonder, do I post it as is, or do I work on it some more? I would like to think that the story is good enough for publication, but I know that right now it ain’t even close! It is more a bare outline than a book. There is much detail that would need to be added. (Can you say description? I hate description! Can you tell?) So, even if I post this last chapter, I know there is much work to be done on the story anyway. I really would like to discuss this with Master, but he is out of town and unavailable for discussion at the moment.

Anyway, I’m glad I embarked on writing this story that has been bouncing around in my head in one form or another for literally years. I know also that Master likes me to do this. He likes to encourage writers, but I think he especially likes for others to appreciate the work of writing. I had someone tell me just yesterday that it was easy to write a book. (This same someone also tells me that he doesn’t/can’t read.) I always assumed that writing was work, but by writing my own “book”, I have an even better appreciation for the effort that goes into this.

So, the story is coming. The ending is coming. Soon.

 How about the sex?

Yesterday I wrote about the prevalence of alcohol in the books that I read. Well, one more thing always seems to be a constant-sex.

In many books, there is a male and a female lead. Often they end up in bed. Or, at the very least, a future romance is hinted at.

If a crime is part of the book, often there is a sexual component to it. Not just a mugging, but a rape and a mugging. Not just a murder, but a rape and a murder. If the heroine is being threatened, usually she is threatened with rape then murder.

I wish I were getting it as much as the people in the books I read. Of course, the books are make-believe. Most real people don’t get it as much as the characters in books.

Or, maybe, I should find different books to read.

 Have a drink.

I read a lot. But I have to admit I’m bothered by something I see in my reading. It seems that people drink a lot in the stories I read. Something difficult happens, have a drink. Ordering dinner? Order some wine. Sitting at home relaxing? Pop the top on a beer.

Don’t these people drink anything besides alcohol? It doesn’t seem so. Is it just because this is all a fantasy anyway? They drink constantly and eat fillet mignon at their meals. No pop (or soda, as the rest of the country calls it) and bologna sandwiches for them.

But the drinking does bother me. Are these people all alcoholics? Isn’t it a bad sign that they drink so much? Or that they need a drink?

For me, hold the booze. Pass me a diet Pepsi, please.
